Common Production Problems & Optimization Schemes of Water Quenching Quartz Process
In actual quartz sand production lines, many processing plants face recurring defects such as insufficient impurity removal, uneven particle size and high binder residue, all caused by unreasonable water quenching parameter setting. We sort out typical problems and targeted optimization solutions.
The first frequent problem: low impurity dissociation rate after water quenching. The main reasons are insufficient heating temperature (below 1000°C) or short heat preservation time, incomplete quartz crystal transformation leading to few microcracks. Optimization scheme: stabilize furnace temperature at 1100–1200°C, extend heat preservation time by 30–60 minutes, and add an appropriate proportion of coal tar binder to strengthen impurity separation.
Second problem: serious particle agglomeration after water quenching. Excessive kerosene binder or incomplete water cooling causes quartz particles to stick together. Solution: control binder addition proportion strictly, increase circulating water flow to speed up cooling, and add a primary crushing procedure before sieving to disperse agglomerated sand.
Third problem: high binder residual carbon in finished sand, affecting product whiteness. Residual binders cannot be fully separated in sieving. Optimization: set up an independent binder recovery tank for cooling water, filter and recycle floating organic binders in real time to avoid secondary adhesion on quartz surfaces.
Fourth problem: unstable particle size distribution after separation. Single-layer sieving cannot distinguish multi-grade particles. Optimize to three-stage combined sieving equipment to separate coarse sand, finished medium sand and ultra-fine slags separately, and recycle unqualified coarse grains back to the heating furnace for secondary water quenching treatment.
All optimization schemes are adjusted based on the core six-step flow of water quenching. Master targeted parameter tuning to significantly improve quartz sand yield and quality. View detailed problem troubleshooting steps here:
