Comparison of Two High-Purity Quartz Purification Methods: High-Temperature Roasting vs Chlorination Roasting
In the production of high-purity quartz stone, choosing the appropriate purification method is crucial to balancing product quality, production cost, and processing efficiency. High-temperature roasting and chlorination roasting are two common purification methods, each with its own characteristics and applicable scenarios. For detailed technical parameters and reaction mechanisms of the two methods, you can check my professional webpage: Two methods for purifying high-purity quartz stone.
From the perspective of process principle, high-temperature roasting is a physical purification method, which mainly relies on high temperature and vacuum environment to realize impurity removal through lattice transformation and thermal movement of impurities; chlorination roasting is a chemical purification method, which uses the chemical reaction between chlorine and impurities to form gaseous chlorides, and then removes impurities through airflow. The difference in principles determines their differences in performance.
In terms of cost and processing capacity, high-temperature roasting has obvious advantages: simple process, low equipment investment and operation cost, and large processing capacity, which is suitable for large-scale industrial production of high-purity quartz stone (SiO2 purity 99.99% or so). Chlorination roasting, as a deep purification method, has high equipment investment and operation cost, limited processing capacity, and is more suitable for small-batch production of ultra-high purity quartz stone (SiO2 purity above 99.999%).
In terms of impurity removal effect, high-temperature roasting is mainly effective for gas-liquid inclusions and hydroxyl groups in quartz sand, and has a good removal effect on most metal impurities; chlorination roasting is more targeted at trace impurities that are difficult to remove by physical methods, such as Al, B, etc., and can achieve deeper purification. In actual production, the two methods are often used in combination: first, high-temperature roasting is used for preliminary purification, and then chlorination roasting is used for deep purification to obtain ultra-high purity quartz stone.
